Meet the vampire’s family tree
The Vampyre (1819) made the vampire a gentleman. Carmilla (1872) came a quarter of a century before Dracula. Then, in 1897, the Count. Read them in order and watch the legend grow.
Published as Byron’s, written by his doctor
On April 1, 1819, The Vampyre appeared in a London magazine as a tale by Lord Byron. It was by his physician, John William Polidori. The introduction tells how it happened, and Byron’s own Fragment is printed at the end.
Never lose your place in the papers
Dracula is told in journals, letters, telegrams, cuttings and a ship’s log. The note before every chapter says whose papers you’re in, which dates and usually where.

Every book is a Reader’s Companion Edition, the same edition sold on its own page. Each opens with an introduction for today’s reader and sets a short reader’s note before every chapter, letter, story or poem: whose voice you are hearing, where and when, and what to notice. Each also has a who’s who of the characters and a glossary of old and unfamiliar words. The two share one design, 6 × 9 inches on cream paper, so they stand together on a shelf.

- Do the two books come together in a case?
- No. They are two separate books in one matching design, each printed for your order and shipped in its own parcel.
- When do the books ship, and how long does delivery take?
- Each printed book ships within 14 days of your order, and each ebook is emailed within 5 days. Your confirmation email gives the exact dates for every book. - What is in each book?

- Can I cancel, or get a refund?
